Newsletter Articles

The Charleville State High School newsletter has changed its distribution dates.
It will now go out to subscribers in Week 2, Week 5 and Week 10 of each Term.

I would like to begin my first newsletter as Principal of Charleville State High School thanking all staff and community members being extremely welcoming. It is very refreshing to be part of a rural community once again.

Over the coming weeks I will be continuing to meet with as many families and community organisations connected to the school as possible.

I have spent the last few weeks engaging with students around the grounds to gain their perspective of schooling. I have enjoyed these conversations and by listening to their student voice will be able to build on the current foundations to deliver a learning environment where students want to be, learn and feel safe.

The school expectations (We are Learners, We are Respectful, We are Responsible, We are Safe) are a great way of working for all students, staff, families and community members. I ask that we work together using these beliefs to allow positive, productive relationships to lead the way as we work together to grow every child in our school academically and socially.

To enable every student to achieve their potential they need to be at school five days a week or every day of their individual program. The teaching teams can only deliver a year of learning if students are attending the maximum days possible. Absences add up very quickly and equate to learning days, weeks or months lost. Please provide a response to the absence texts when your child is unavoidably away from school (or text 0428 220 673 at any time) to ensure an explanation is recorded.

Regards
Craig Law

Investiture

In week 3, our school, families, friends and wider Charleville community inducted our year 12 students and student leaders as our leaders for 2023. We look forward to working with our entire year 12 senior cohort as they lead our school with pride and excellence over the coming year. Our senior students play an important role in helping to set the tone for the school year. It is through their example when striving for academic success, wearing the school uniform with pride, their participation in school activities and by showing responsibility at all times, that their true leadership qualities shine.

We would like to acknowledge the following students who form part of our student leadership team for 2023:

School Captains: Angus Scheerer and Jordan Anderson

Indigenous Ambassador: Emmerson Mitchell

Junior Captains: Tahnee Reynolds and Oliver Russell

House Captains:
Alamein Senior Captain: Sophie Goodman
Alamein Junior Captain: Paddy Short
Kokoda Senior Captain: Maddison King
Kokoda Junior Captain: Jordyn Thureson
Tobruk Senior Captain: Laquisha O’Neil
Tobruk Junior Captain: Jack Williams

Assessment Calendars

On Monday, students received their assessment calendars for either the semester (for years 7 to 10) or year (for years 11 and 12). These calendars are also available by visiting our school website and on our school Facebook page. Please work with your student to ensure they are organised and prepared for up and coming assessment. If you have any questions regarding these dates, please make contact with your students’ teacher and/or respective faculty Head of Department. If your student was absent on Monday, please encourage them to drop into the office to collect a copy of their assessment calendar.

Year 11 & 12 Permission to leave forms

A fortnight ago, year 11/12 students who have a line of study periods a week, received a Permission to Leave early/arrive late form to be completed and returned to the office. This form is conditional to students having a study period in either periods 1 or 4 and must be signed by themselves, parent/carer and the Deputy Principal (Years 11 & 12), Miss Andriolo.

If these forms are not returned with this permission, students will not be allowed to leave early/arrive late during these designated study periods. This year, a checklist of conditions must also be met by senior students to ensure their success across this school year with permission being revoked if these conditions are not met. If your student has not returned this form and is eligible for this privilege, please contact myself at the school or via email, sxand9@eq.edu.au to obtain a copy.

Year 11 & 12 Student Driver forms

Year 11 and 12 students with a valid drivers’ licence can drive to and from school only if they return the ‘ Student Driver ’ form. On returning this form, students must ensure all passengers are accounted for on this form, along with written permission from their passengers parent/carer. Without this written permission, students will not be allowed to transport passengers other than themselves.

Please note, this permission form is for students travelling from home to school in the mornings and their return back home from school at the end of the school day. These permission forms do not allow students to come and go throughout the day (including lunch times). Students are not allowed to leave school during the day to go buy lunch. We thank you for your support with this and encourage you to make contact with me if you have any further questions.

As we start to move closer to the assessment period, I encourage students, parents and/or carers to make contact with their teachers to touch base on current progress. If I can be of any assistance within the year 11 and 12 space, please do not hesitate to make contact with me.

Regards,

Stefanie Andriolo
Deputy Principal – Years 11 and 12

Student Support

Hi everyone, and a warm welcome to 2023 from the Student Support Team!

We are excited to have kicked off our support programs for the year, beginning with Cultural classes with Bina, Life Skills classes with Debi, and also our after-school Girls’ Group (with Bina, Debi & Bonnie from the Youth Support Service at the Neighbourhood Centre) and Tradies’ Club (with Chappy and Mr Needer). If you think your student may be interested in attending Girls’ Group or Tradies’ Club (boys group), this year they will both be held on Tuesday afternoons, 3-4pm - everyone is welcome, and afternoon tea is provided!

Please don’t hesitate to chat with us for more information, or get your student to grab a consent form from the Office. No weekly commitment is required, students may attend as they choose (once consent forms are submitted).

Stay tuned for some progress updates and photos as the term progresses! Until next time, from the Student Support Team
