Year 7 Health Activities
Year 7’s Participating in Health Activities
Industry Liaison Officer
Last semester was a very busy one including South West Career Expo; Year 10 Work Experience week and a White Card course.
South West Careers Expo 2024
This Year’s Careers Expo held on the 26th March, was another success with a different venue to previous years. This year it was located at the show grounds main pavilion with outdoor exhibitors in the surrounding grounds. The weather however had other plans and rain unfortunately made the outdoor exhibits impossible to set up. Approximately 270 students attended from schools across our district including Charleville State School; St Mary’s School and Charleville State High School; Cunnamulla & Quilpie State College. There was still plenty on offer indoors for our students. With 31 Exhibitors including the Royal Flying Doctor Simulator Plane, 5 guest speakers and Trade videos, there was plenty to spark interest and questions for students for career pathways. Thank you to RESQ and HOPE and the committee for again hosting this fantastic event for our community.
White Card Course
For the second year, a group of students completed an online course White Card Course (Construction Induction Card). This card is essential for anyone working on construction sites in trades, with Council or other organisations that require it, before being able to commence work experience. This year, 13 senior students from years 9-12 completed the white card course and received their white cards. Once you have a white card you have it for life and it is a valuable card for those seeking a trade career.
Year 10 Work Experience Week
Work Experience week this year was successful with 25 of the year 10s completing work experience at many of the various businesses and organisations within our community. It is a valuable and beneficial experience for our students and gives them the opportunity to work in an industry or job they are interested in, and to experience working life in that field. This program helps students make decisions about subjects and pathways into their senior school years. Work experience has helped many students over the years secure school based or full-time apprenticeships and traineeships as it gives employers a chance to see their potential. Just after completion of work experience week this year and having done previous work experience, 2 of our year 10 students have been offered school-based apprenticeships. Alex White at Charleville Auto Electrical and Bridget Sullivan at Town Talk Hair & Beauty. Congratulations to both these students who have worked hard to show initiative and great work ethic within the work place.
On behalf of CSHS I would sincerely like to thank all of our local businesses, trades and organisations for giving our students work experience placements year after year, it is very much appreciated.

Bullying. No Way! National Week of Action
This week, our school is participating in Bulling. No Way!: National week of action (12 to 16 August 2024). At Charleville SHS, we believe that when #EveryoneBelongs, bullying has no place. This Bullying No Way Week we reaffirm our commitment to kindness, respect, and making sure everyone feels like they belong. YSC Katie is posting daily challenges on notices, and our students have been fiercely competing for daily prizes! Monday’s class challenge was to brainstorm different ways we can help others feel like they belong - check out what our amazing students and staff came up with!

Mixed Touch Football
On Sunday 4th August Charleville State High School’s mixed touch football team participated in the Toowoomba All Schools tournament. Our team battled it out over five games throughout the day, displaying great teamwork and resilience. A highlight was that a member of the public made of point on congratulating us on our respect for the officials and our sportsmanship, something to be very proud of.
Our team made big a improvement on last year’s results as they came home with two wins, two losses and a draw. Great preparation for Gold Coast All Schools in October.
Well done team!
Athletics Carnival
Footy Colours Day
Charleville State High School is holding their 1st Footy Colours Day on Tuesday 3rd September 2024.
Students and staff are encouraged to join in on the fun and raise awareness for children living with cancer.
Footy Colours Day is a special event in Australia where individuals are encouraged to wear the colours of their favourite football team (of any code) to school or work to raise funds for children living with cancer. It’s a day where sport meets charity, uniting communities in their passion for football and compassion for kids battling cancer.
Please find the link below to donate directly towards, and to share via email or social media, to help our school reach the $500 donation goal.
Murweh Shire Community Services Coordinator
I’m thrilled to join the Murweh Shire Council as the new Community Services Coordinator!
A little bit about me: Twenty years ago, I moved to an outback community town in FNQ and began working as an assistant mango farmer. What was meant to be a “two-year adventure” away from city life turned into a lasting love for the outback and its unique way of life. Over the years, I navigated distance education, hostel living, and boarding school while raising my five children. We’re still here, happily embracing the outback experience!
Living in smaller towns has given me a unique perspective on the needs of remote communities from a health care standpoint. Those long drives to our far north property provided ample time for reflection, which eventually led me to Melbourne and WA for training in communication tools and mental health skills. My career then evolved into disability support work, fuelled by my own experience advocating for my four children who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This journey has deepened my understanding of the NDIS & the health system, and how to effectively support people in the community.
When I moved to Charleville, I felt an immediate connection with the town and its people. It’s this strong sense of community that inspired me to take on this role as Community Services Coordinator. Please feel welcome to introduce yourself, ask questions, or just have a friendly chat with me!
I’m genuinely excited to work with you all and explore how we can enhance community services together.
Looking forward to meeting you!
